Put down the pitchforks!  I fully realize that I am in the minority here.  According to several websites, like the Thrillist, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups ranks the number one Halloween candy.  On some sites, it even ranks as number one with over a 50% majority!

Tony, are you some sort of MONSTER?!  I very well may be, but I’ve always resisted the majority and the status quo.  I don’t fully know the reason why, but I think it  has something to do with my resolve to find my own identity apart from the crowd.  Of course, that makes me quite weird at times.

I think one of the reasons I don’t care for chocolate and peanut butter is because of their similar textures and flavors.  It’s a creamy, earthy, smoothness that blends well together, but doesn’t provide any contrast.

Here’s where I become a total hypocrite.  I love Reese’s pieces, and peanut M&M’s!  Before you throw something at me, hear me out.  It’s the contrast of the crunchy outer shell and the smooth creaminess of the inner filling that makes them so good.  In fact, these are so dangerous for me, that I can only have small bags.  If I were to get a jumbo 1lb bag, I would down the whole thing at once.

Generally though, I’m not a chocolate guy.  Man, I think I am upsetting a bunch of you out there!  I like sweets.  Sweet Tarts, Smarties, Twizzlers, and the ultimate of candies, Swedish Fish!  Get those multi-colored fish out of here.  Give me only the red and delicious, swim in your mouth, fantastically flavored Swedish Fish.  It may not be the most popular candy, but I feel that they’ve made a comeback in recent years.  I checked Google Trends and it looks like I am wrong, however, they gained super popularity in August 2016.  Curiosity got the best of me and I had to find out why.

Swedish fish oreosThrough the wonders of interweb tubes and enhancement techonologies, I was able to Google “Swedish Fish” for all articles in August 2016.  What I found was the true monster.  Swedish Fish Oreos.  Chocolate cookies filled with Swedish Fish flavored creme!  What were they thinking!  Not only does chocolate not go with peanut butter, it most definitely does not go with my beloved Swedish Fish.

I’m all for standing out from the crowd, but sometimes you can take it too far.  The Franken-cookie is the stuff of nightmares.  I guess that’s what Halloween is about though.

So now that you know that Swedish Fish are my favorite candy, leave a comment below and let me know what Halloween treat is your favorite!
